Internet Marketing Training – What Ideas Can You Steal From Flippa To Help You Build Great Websites?

Flippa is the subject of discussion for a lot of web developers. In case you aren’t familiar with it, flippa.com is a website to buy and sell websites. People are starting to realize that there is a lot of money to be made on the Internet but the learning curve is very steep. With Flippa you can simply buy a website that is already set up and making money.

Of course like most things, the more money a website makes the more money it costs. The usual mark up is ten (10) times what ever the website makes in one (1) month. People are setting up websites, doing the SEO and listing them on Flippa. Sometimes they don’t even make any money but people still buy them. This has become quite a business.

Lets talk about my recent #1 website for a minute. I used WordPress to make the site and a plug-in that added products from Commission Junction. If you aren’t familiar with WordPress, plug-ins and CJ, don’t fret, I’ll be explaining it all in the future. For now you need to know that WordPress is a free website design program. Anyone can make a basic website in 10 minutes. Plug-ins are small free aps that load into WordPress that make it do different functions. This particular plugin cost me $17 and I can use it on as many websites as I want.

All-in-all, I spent a total of 2 hours making the site, $10 for the domain name and I host it on my hosting account that I pay $25/mo for unlimited websites. You can get hosting for one website for as little as $5 per month but I use a reseller account with unlimited websites because I do a lot of them.

This website made $48 last month. I could easily sell it on Flippa for $500. Not a bad hourly rate don’t you think?

I am not interested in selling it at this time though. That is not my business model. I’m getting a little ahead of myself here but my business model for this site is to build an entire network of similar sites. This particular site is a furniture site. I already have 10 other sites in the furniture niche. My reasoning is that someone looking for one piece of furniture is probably looking for several pieces. So if I have a site that sells beds, I’ll also have a site that sell bedding and maybe another one that sells lamps, etc.

Is it easy to sell bedding or lamps over the Internet? The short answer is no, it is not that easy. There is a lot of competition. With the Internet, everyone is looking for the lowest price. But I’m not really trying to sell stuff over the Internet. My goal is AdSense income. If someone should happen to buy a lamp or a bed, great! I would make an extra $10 or $200 that month. Every once in a while someone will purchase something but I look at that as a bonus. I am completely happy if the site makes $30/mo with AdSense and never sells anything at all. It’s much easier to get someone to click an ad than it is to get someone to buy furniture they have never seen and can’t touch or sit on.

One of my mantras is to set achievable goals. After Businesse achieve a goal, make a new goal that’s a little higher but still achievable.

But once again I got off track. What does Flippa have to do with all this? I want to point out just how simple the sites on Flippa are. Most are WordPress sites. Nothing fancy, just enough to get the job done. When you make your own sites, they don’t have to be real pretty or polished. The goal is to make money, not impress someone with your artistic skills.

Where these sellers really shine is in the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to get the sites noticed. Anybody can build a website but very few people can get it on the first page of Google.
